Episode Guide
Episode #2: He Who Does Not Cry
We first see the ruins of a city, covered almost
entirely in water. Inside one of the towers, in a darkened
room below a stained glass window, stands Darcia, a tall figure clad
in a long, black cloak, who is looming over the unconscious figure
of a woman with very long yellow-green hair. A girl holding a
violet-colored orb enters the room, informing Darcia that a wolf has
appeared in the northern town, the first wolf sighting in 200 years.
He asks her if the "Flower Maiden", in other words Cheza, has
awakened, to which she replies yes. We learn then that the
green-haired woman's name is Harmona, and he seems to have some sort
of emotional attachment to her. Apparently Cheza has something
to do with her regaining consciousness.
** Opening sequence **
Back to Cheza in her spherical holding tank.
While in the middle of discussing their research, Cher gets a phone
call from Hubb, her ex-husband. He tells her he found
something interesting, and wants her to meet him. He brings her back to the
police station, to the room where the wolf had been incarcerated, to
show her the dead body of the boy who followed Tsume. Hubb
points out the teeth marks on the boy's shoulder to Cher, and asks
her opinion. She isn't sure, but they both speculate that the
"dog" that escaped earlier may have attacked the boy. Of
course this isn't true but they have no way of knowing that.
But she does say that an animal of that size running free in the
city is bound to be seen by someone. She notices hair around
the mallet they boy had been carrying, picks it up, then glances at
the cage that Kiba had been in.
Outside, in the dilapidated city, crows flock around
open garbage cans to scavenge for food. From a distance, a
lanky, tan colored wolf watches, and charges into the flock,
intending on getting the food for himself. However, the crows
attack him, sending him bounding over backwards to escape their
beaks. In doing so, he trips over a cat, whose growling
frightens him, and he runs away, hiding behind a pile of logs on the
other side of the alley. He peers out, whining and submissive.
Then he spots a girl and her father carrying groceries. A
potato falls out of the girl's bag, and the tan wolf takes the
opportunity to eat, but is scared away when the girl goes to
retrieve the potato. Feeling sympathy for the wolf, the girl
pulls some sausage out of her bag and offers it to him.
Reluctantly, he approaches her and accepts the food out of her hand.
He then licks her hand, and allows her to pet him. Her father
calls for her -- the girl's name is Leara -- and she leaves, but the
wolf wants to follow her. She tells him he cannot go with her,
and is surprised when he seems to understand. She gets into
her father's truck and leaves the wolf behind.
In the alleyways, police scramble to catch a man who
is running away from them. Women standing on a porch talk of
the appearance of wolves in their town. Little do they know as
they talk of this, Kiba and Hige walk right past them, scaring their
little pug dog. Kiba is taking advantage of his newfound
freedom in human form, allowing Hige to show him around town.
Hige steals two hotdogs from a vendor, and eats them in the adjacent
alley with Kiba, who doesn't seem to appreciate the favor.
Kiba tells Hige that he wants to break back into the police station,
because the scent of the lunar flower is coming from that building.
Kiba leaves without Hige to follow the scent.
Tsume sits near the edge of the top of a building
where the tree is, mulling over the previous day. One of his
gang members approaches him, informing him that the Nobles have
places a bounty on thieves, and suggesting that they leave town.
But Tsume insists they continue to rampage that night. The
rest of the gang disagrees, and threaten to leave him. Of
course, he ignores this, and plans as usual.
Back in the lab, Cher had analyzed hair samples from
both the mallet and the cage, and finds out they are from two
different animals. Not only that, but there were two different
types of dog hair found around the cage. Hubb decides to go
meet with Quent, and find out what he knows.
Quent is sitting on a porch drinking, and telling
Blue that wolves are her enemies.
Leara is walking along a street, still carrying the
bag of groceries. The wolf, Toboe, in human form this time, is
following her, and meets up with her to talk. He thanks her
for the sausage, claiming it was for his dog. He tells her the
name of his "dog", and says he has the same name as him. She
thinks he is strange.
Tsume, walking in the alleyways, spots police
officers loading caught thieves into their vans. Among them is
Kiba. He turns away, and walks back down where he came form
when Toboe accidentally runs into him. Toboe is surprised and
happy to meet another wolf, but his trepidation doesn't last for
long, because Quent and Blue cross their paths. Tsume leaps
out of the way, but Toboe stands there still, petrified, as Quent
pulls out his rifle. He approaches Toboe, who is still frozen
in place, and in his drunken stupor sees both Toboe's forms at the
same time. Quent is ready to take fire when Tsume leaps down
from the building, knocking the gun out of Quent's hand. In
the confusion, they both make their escape. Toboe follows
Tsume around like a puppy dog, and he already knows Tsume's name,
having heard stories about him from the crows. He says it is
his first time meeting another wolf. Tsume doesn't seem to
care. Toboe, not being thrown off by Tsume's indifferent attitude,
continues talking and following him, until Tsume decided he's had
enough, and tells Toboe to leave him alone.
Kiba sits in a prison cell in the police station.
The door opens, and Hige, along with a few others, enter.
In a forested area near the edge of town, Leara
stands near the window of her house, tending to her falcon.
Toboe, having abandoned Tsume, watches from the trees. The
falcon flies from her shoulder, and Toboe follows. It lands,
pinning a mouse to the ground, and begins to feed. Toboe, in
wolf form, charges at the falcon, catching it in his jaws.
Leara hears her bird screaming, and runs to find out what is wrong.
Toboe runs to her, the falcon in his hands. He accidentally
killed it when trying to retrieve it for her. He hands her the
lifeless body of her falcon, and she stares at him with hatred.
In his sorrow, he howls, allowing her to see his wolf form, and this
frightens her. Tsume hears Toboe's howling, and runs to save
him from himself. He grabs Toboe mid-howl.
At night in the shadows of an abandoned building,
Toboe talks to Tsume about what happened. He also tells him
about his life story. He was found by an old lady shortly
after he was born. She took him in and raised him, not knowing
he was a wolf. She was the one who gave him the white
bracelets he wears. Tsume assumes he was raised like a dog,
but Toboe insists that he was protecting the old lady. But he
felt as though he let her down because she died (how she died we do
not know).
Hubb finally finds Quent, and is invited into his
house to see something.
Tsume talks to one of his comrades, who informs him
that no one is coming to meet him. His gang had abandoned him,
and are all leaving town.
Back in the police station. In the prison
cell, Kiba and Hige decide it is time to get going, and break out of
the cell. In the laboratory, emergency lights are flashing.
Doors open, and at the end of a corridor stands Darcia. He has
put several guards to sleep, and is making his way to where Cheza
is. He startles Cher, and using the power from the eye hidden
behind the eyepatch, he puts her to sleep as well, and takes Cheza.
Hige and Kiba arrive just in time to see Darcia walking out of the
laboratory with Cheza in his arms.
